TOTEM is a Cirque du Soleil show directed by Robert Lepage.
In TOTEM, creation myths act as a springboard for exploring the birth and evolution of Man – like an echo of the great questions of life.
From the edge of an « image marshland » that becomes a spring, a swamp, a lake and an ocean through the magic of projectors, the show traces the fascinating journey from the beginnings of life to Man’s ultimate desire to fly. The characters in TOTEM inhabit an island evoking the shape of a giant turtle – an animal that, according to many ancient civilizations, carries the world on its shell.
The themes of evolution and the search for balance are closely woven together throughout the show and illustrate – in a multidimensional visual and acrobatic language – the evolutionary journey of species.
Somwhere between science and legend, TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential.
